PANAMA CITY, Florida—When a sudden storm caused waves to swell to five feet, a houseboat capsized and trapped two women inside. Men in two nearby boats wasted no time in pulling together to offer help.

In one boat, Travis Brady and his friends had left the Panama City Marina that morning, hoping to celebrate the start of red snapper season with a big catch. Shortly into their journey, as if out of nowhere, the waters grew unexpectedly rougher and the waves climbed higher. The friends decided to call it a day and return to shore before the weather further deteriorated.

While returning to the marina, the group spotted the capsized houseboat floating in the water. They immediately redirected their own boat to offer help. As they pulled up, they could see another man diving into the treacherous water from his boat. That man, later identified as Boyd Jordan, smashed a window to reach the two trapped women.

“He (Jordan) is the true hero of this story,” Brady said. “Without hesitation, he was just in the water helping those people.”

The houseboat, which served as a floating general store that sold inflatables, had been moored in the marina when the waves dislodged it. The two women inside were the houseboat’s crew.

Brady and his friends maneuvered their boat closer to the scene. When they moved within range, they threw Jordan a life jacket with a line attached. They then threw additional life jackets to the houseboat crew members.

Brady and his friends hauled Jordan and the stranded crew members onto their own already crowded boat. Brady’s friends decided to swim ashore to make room for the rescued individuals. Brady then guided the group to safety where they were able to walk ashore.

The group sustained no injuries during the ordeal or the miraculous escape.

Brady commented that the daring rescue restored his faith in humanity.

“It makes you really reflect on the things that are important in life,” he said. “It was just an eye-opening moment for me, I just feel like divine intervention puts you in the right place at the right time.”

The Foundation for a Better Life and PassitOn believe that Jordan Boyd, Travis Brady and his group of friends are true heroes. Their actions demonstrate the value of pulling together to help one another in times of crisis. Please help celebrate them by sharing their inspiring story.
