'Tech Fairy' Fixes Old Computers to then Donate them.

December 13, 2022 by Catherine Stack

Tampa, Florida - Craig Clark is known in his Florida community as the 'Tech Fairy'. The kindhearted retiree grants free laptops and computers as his wishes. He uses his IT skillset as a unique way to help improve the lives of hundreds of his community members. He now wants to inspire other technicians to join him on his mission of kindness, one computer at a time.

Craig is retired from his corporate job in computers. He grew bored in his retirement and sought to pursue a challenging hobby. He decided to continue doing what he does best which is to fix computers. In his spare time, he helps individuals and families improve their lives by connecting them with technology.

Craig places ads for used computer donations on the neighborhood community website, next-door. Once he refurnishes the old computers, he then offers them away for free to community members. He was aware that many individuals, both young and old, struggle financially and often neglect to purchase a computer due to the expense. He wanted to find a way to help solve this problem. So far, he has given away more than 430 computers.

“I can sleep really well at night knowing that I helped that many people with that aspect of their lives,” said Craig.

Melissa, one of Craig’s computer recipient attests to his giving nature. Her daughter needed a computer for school. But as a single mother of four children, purchasing a new expensive computer was not in her budget. One day she logged onto next-door and to her surprise saw Craig’s generous offer. The free computer was a lifesaver for her family.

When Melissa met Craig in person, she was instantly drawn to his positive, ‘can do’ attitude. She describes her “techfairy” as a spitfire, always eager to take on any challenge in his mission to help others.

“They (her children) call him Grandpa Craig now because he has become like family,” shared Melissa.

A computer offers numerous benefits. It helps the elderly easily connect with health professionals from the comfort of their home. It also saves them time and money by having their medicine and food delivered and monthly bills paid with the help of their online accounts. Computers have also connected many young students with online educational programs. They have also helped families connect with extended relatives living far away through email, social media, and video conference. Now with Craig’s help, everyone in his community will have access to these lifechanging benefits.

Craig is thrilled that his labor of love is beneficial to those in need. He hopes to inspire other tech savvy individuals to become tech fairies in their own communities. Together they can improve the lives of many.
