As a teacher, I have to think about this a lot. There are certain things I can control in my students' lives, and some things that I just can't, but I have to do my best with the things that I can control.

In the past year my husband has lost most of his vision, legally blind. At first we were frantic looking for a cure. Now we accept the loss and are calmly searching for ways to make every day living bearable. Every day I am thankful that my husband is still sharp mentally, continues his research work as a professor emeritus, and has a good sense of humor. Get togethers with friends and family are vital. We try help each other in many ways.
