A mother knows that her children are a success if they are happy ,kind, respectful and responsible people who work to support themselves and can live on their own. When a parent shows love, accepts the child for who he is , then love follows. You can't get love until you know how to give love. The "give" is on the part of the parent, not the child. What does a child take from a family ? Only what he gives. After reading about an Russian adoption, entitled "When Adoption Isn't Easy", I was very concerned. I, as a single parent, adopted two boys from Russia in 1994 and 1996. I fell in love with them at first sight. I only saw them as handsome little boys. Parents shouldn't look for emotional problems but just spend time together. Perhaps when a parent does analysis on a child more than accepting them for who they are, there is a problem. A parent doesn't question a child's rational thinking or reciprocity. Children under 5 years old don't even know what rational thinking and reciprocity is. I never thought of my sons as strangers,as they were my sons from the moment I saw them. I didn't make them into people who love me. It is their job in make themselves into the people they are today. I am just there for them always. I didn't tell them to love me. I believe they may not have known what love was, but what they learned about loving a Mom, they learned themselves. Am I a success as a parent? My job isn't finished yet. Are my sons successful? It depends on what they think, not my plan for them. So far, my sons are successful . They have to do it for themselves. My greatest joy in life has been to adopt my sons and the challenges to "love" and raise them and being their "Mom". I have been blessed! To always love children and be with children. As a recent retired kindergarten-primary teacher and a "Mom" and" Grandma" , I am truly blessed!!!
