The Key and the Schoolwork

Nothing good happened the time I lied. You will never get away with lying and not always thinking. You’ll almost always get caught. The time I lied my mom was gone and I was with my dad, we were at my brothers football game and I asked my dad if I could go get something from the car. He said yes and gave me the keys so I could get it. When I was at the car I put the keys in about half way and twisted. It didn’t budge. So the next time I tried a little harder. Then I tried a little harder. Still, didn’t work, so I took it out and put it back in and this time it worked. After the game was over my dad tried to put the key in and he realized the key was bent and asked me if I had done it. I said no. He continued to ask me over the last two weeks if I had done it and I continued to say no, and continued to lie.
About two weeks after that happened, I had to sign the garbage log at school because I didn’t finish all of my work. I took it home and showed it to my mom and dad and asked them to sign it. They asked me to tell them why I had to sign it. I told them I had to sign it because I didn’t finish my work. They asked me why I didn’t finish my work and I told them I didn’t know why. They asked me a couple more times and I continued to tell them I didn’t know why. My dad told me that he thought I was lying about the key too. So then my mom told me to get the phone so she could call my teacher. Then my teacher told my mom that it was homework and then my mom asked me again and I told her the same thing. I then got ¬¬so scared I almost passed out. My dad caught me and carried me into the living room so I could sit down. Then we got back to the key thing and I told him I had been lying about that and I told him the truth and came clean. Then I told them the truth about my schoolwork and told them Thursday I had forgotten to bring my homework home and during that class time I had been talking instead of doing my work.
I felt much better after I had told the truth. If I had told the truth in the first place I would not have gotten in as much trouble. The punishment I got for lying was I was not allowed to use anything electronic or watch any TV, and instead of getting to read for fun I had to read about honesty and integrity. There is an old saying that says the truth will set you free. It means that once you tell the truth your conscience will be free and not always thinking about the lie you told, it will be free. When I was telling my parents that I had gotten in trouble at school, I had lied because I was scared of how much trouble I was going to get in but I ended up getting in even more trouble than I would have if I had told the truth in the first place. While I was lying I was hoping that I was going to get away with it but you never will. I wish I had not lied in the first place. When I lied about the key it just didn’t seem right at the time to go back and tell the truth but it really was the right thing to do.
