Hi, my name is Maria. I am sixteen. I am super-skinny. So skinny my ribs poke out when I stretch. I'm always known as the "cute and innocent one" at school. I'm a goody-two-shoes. I stink at sports. I would never win in an arm wrestle. Despite my physical weakness, I'm probably stronger than ten people combined. Why? Because I was born with chronic lung disease. And despite that, I play the flute, sing, and join the Ultimate Frisbee team every year. My lung function is much less than a normal person's. I have had to live with this for all my life. But, I make do with what I have. I practice. I try my best at EVERYTHING, even if I barely have a fighting chance. The doctors say it's a miracle I am so full of life. To be honest, I have never told any of my classmates about my lung condition. I don't think that they have really noticed anything out of the ordinary. Because I never give up, and always persevere. I've always wanted to be someone that people can look up to, even when I was little. And my goal right now is to become a singer. It may sound crazy or impossible, but you haven't even heard me yet. ;) I will always keep persevering and trying my hardest. One day, it might just pay off!

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
