When my sister had her first child, she was only 17 years old. I was just 14 when I found out that I was going to have a niece. I was excited when Alyssa, my sister, was in the hospital having her. My sister named her baby girl, Kaylin Jane. When Kaylin was just 6 months old her father walked out on my sister, leaving her struggling. So me, being a good sister and aunt, stepped up to help Alyssa take care of Kaylin. I spent all of my time and energy making sure my niece could grow up with a normal childhood, and not feel like her father didn’t want her or anything like that. I was like a father to her because he was hardly there for them. Still to this day I take care of her; she’s more like my daughter then my niece. I was there helping out since the day she was born. I think I devoted all of my childhood to my niece so she could grow up and have a better life then my sister and I had.
