My grandmother has always been my hero. She is the sweetest person in the world and thinks of everyone before herself. Last Christmas, she suffered a terrible stroke, which took away her ability to both speak and walk.
While in the hospital waiting room after her stroke, we heard so many stories of generosity from her past. Many people told us that if it weren't for her, they wouldn't be living in a house today. Years ago, she started a program in her town where if kids had to live with their grandparents, my grandmother's resource center would give them support. Her center was nationally recognized in magazines and news reports. There were so many inspirational stories that my family and I didn't even know about.
It's been about 9 or 10 months since her stroke, and she is now walking with assistance from a special brace on her leg. We feel so fortunate for this breakthrough because the doctor said she would probably never walk again. I am so proud that she is my grandmother, she is amazing!
