Girl Sews Custom, Kid-inspired Hospital Gowns for Patients at Children's Hospitals.

Giuliana's 9-month-old cousin, admitted to the hospital for brain cancer treatment, wore the same oversized, drab-colored hospital gown as the other young patients. Giuliana imagined transforming those gowns into something more vibrant and fun to help uplift the kids during their toughest moments. 

Having recently learned to sew at camp, Guiliana put her new skill into action. First, she began to create gowns with bright, fun patterns. Then she enlisted the help of her younger sister to organize kids' sewing workshops to encourage other young people to join the cause. All the hospital gowns created went to Children's Hospital patients at no charge. 

“We get so much more accomplished when we work together,” shared Giuliana. “It’s rewarding to feel the impact we’re making on the patients we help; who are kids just like us.”

Giuliana’s program eventually evolved into a full-scale non-profit organization, G’s Giving Gowns. Grants and online merchandise sales now support the production of pediatric hospital gowns in 47 states and 10 countries. 

Since the program started, Giuliana has built an impressive network of partners within her community. She works with a local laundry company that sanitizes and packages her gowns to meet hospital standards. 

The gowns created by G’s Giving Gowns are designed by kids and made for kids. They come in various fun, kid-friendly fabrics and sizes. Families can customize the gowns by selecting the child's favorite colors, favorite animals, hobbies, cartoon characters and more. 

G’s Giving Gowns’ aims to restore a young patient’s confidence and sense of joy during their medical treatments. The custom gowns can bring a sense of normalcy back into the child's long treatment days. The program also aims to provide community support for a child patient’s family. 

The organization has grown to include a team of 500 kindhearted volunteers that have sewn and distributed 3,563 free custom gowns. They also create port access shirts and ostomy bag covers.

Giuliana is now a high school student who believes that no matter our age, we all have a responsibility to look out for one another. She believes she has accomplished her mission when she sees a child smile upon receiving a hospital gown that reflects their personality. 

In 2025, Giuliana was named a Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes National Honoree for her inspiring leadership of her unique program aimed to uplift children.

The Foundation for a Better Life and PassIton believe that Giuliana is a hero. G’s Giving Gowns' mission started with a thread of kindness to help bring comfort to young patients. Her fun, kid-inspired hospital gowns help young patients feel more like kids again during medical treatment. Her action is a great example of the value, Be A Light.
