Teen Starts Financial Mentoring Program to Empower Youth.

ATLANTA, Georgia—At age 5, Caden Harris could not speak, and he subsequently went through years of speech therapy. Now, at the age of 15, he has graduated high school early, authored financial literacy books for kids and currently serves as CEO of a six-figure company called Caden Teaches.

Caden’s own financial education began at age 5 when he tagged along with his father to business meetings. Those meetings sparked Caden’s fascination with the topic of finance. He started to research financial literacy and eventually started teaching those valuable lessons to other kids.

At age 7, Caden started his own financial literacy business named Caden Teaches. By age 13, he had graduated high school and began brainstorming an idea for a financial literacy bus to help reach more children. He invested $10,000 of his own money to purchase the bus, but then needed investors to fund its transformation into a mobile learning hub. He reached out to potential investors, endured some rejections and eventually raised $50,000 to create the mobile financial education experience he had envisioned.
Caden now travels all over the country promoting his business and teaching youth about the life-changing benefits of financial literacy.

Caden Teaches invites kids onto the Caden’s Financial Bus for a fun-filled, immersive experience. On the bus, kids explore many resources, such as a financial toolbox bundle and short courses based on age-appropriate curriculum. Caden and his team also use flash cards, books and kid-friendly activities to engage the kids while teaching them how to save, budget and invest.

“On the bus, we have a mock bank. A mock grocery store. At the mock Stock Exchange, they get to learn how to earn, save, budget and invest in stocks,” Caden explained.

Caden’s believes that students should not graduate high school without learning financial literacy basics.
“That’s something that really needs to change,” he said. “Because once we learn about financial literacy, we’ll learn how to have better cities, better communities and – once the financial literacy problem is out of the way – we can focus on everything else.”

The financial bus has visited more than 100 schools nationwide this year alone. Caden's program reached 50,000 kids, and he hopes to expand the reach to 500,000 worldwide.

Caden doesn’t believe that age should ever limit people. On the contrary, he attributes the success of his program to the fact that it was started “by a kid for other kids.” He wants to lead by example and show fellow youth that they can achieve anything. His company's tagline reads: “If Caden Can, You Can Too.”

The Foundation for a Better Life and PassItOn believe that Caden Harris is a hero. His action is a great example of the value of mentoring. Caden’s perseverance enabled him to break through barriers, and he now lives out his mission to empower kids to achieve their goals through financial literacy.
