Cancer - An easy to go with COURAGE

When I found out I had Bone cancer, I was discouraged by the news. Little did I know the other serious health issues that lay ahead, which would create serious new challenges for me over the next year.
I could tell something wasn’t right with my right leg after my trip to Tirupathi in 2012. A visit to local doctor resulted in tests that showed some unusual kind of image just below my right knee. It was cancer. I called Hinduja hospital, Mumbai for an appointment with an orthopedic. There, I was told I’d need surgery to remove the bone tumor but before that I’d need to go through some cycles of chemotherapy to clear out all the cancer cells in the body. My dad had a depressing facial expression yet pretended to be positive and my mom had even more depressing face with teary eyes when they heard the news along me. All the doctors consoled me and asked me to be positive minded and assured the best treatment in a short time. Treatment will take minimum of 6 months depending upon how well you respond to it, they said. Okay, I spoke hoarsley. Treatment started and like a coward I began blaming God and started complaining him, Why me? Why only me? Why bad things happen only to good people? There were many side affects during chemotherapy. My hair started loosing, lost my weight nearly about 30 kilos, mouth and throat began to sore, I was nearly dead with fatigue, constipation, vomitings, blood disorders to name it a few. And then after 3 cycles of chemotherapy, Surgery was successfully done and tumor was removed from my right leg and a German rod was implanted, thanks to the doctor expertees and little bit of my will power which my dad poured in me before the surgery. Everyone including my family and friends were happy for the successful surgery. Yet the job was half done. There were cancer cells in my body which had to be removed by going through another few cycles of chemotherapy.
I then encountered a bit of courage to face what I had been going through, thanks to my dad, the man with a positive intent. I started feeling strong enough and accepted it as a challenge and was prepared to fight and win.
While in the home with my parents, I began to experience dizziness and an extreme headache, I fainted. A 102 call and a trip to the emergency department at Hinduja hospital revealed I was getting infected by cancer cells to the core and the infection might spread to the whole body which can result in kidney failure.
What came next began a series of medical events that would threaten even the most optimistic patient’s resolve. 24 injections a day, which was too powerful to cope up with it made me even more weak resulting in decrement of white blood cells counts. But my previously encountered courage kept me positive enough to go through it. Doctors with a disheartening tone yet with a positive intent passed the news that I need to go through one more major surgery to remove the implant in my leg and to fit a temporary straight rod till the treatment of infection so that the German implant will be safe and will not be infectious. Four months after completion of yet another major surgery and post-infective treatment, March 30 was the day when my doctor came out running in the ward with a big smile on his face and hugged me tightly. I was so confused and had no idea about what was going on. The doctor then revealed the news, he said, you’ve finally made it Atish, the scan reports are extremely good. You’ve kicked cancer’s ass, you have won Atish, you have won. There’s no need of chemotherapy cycles now, as per the reports there is no presence of cancer cells in your body. Congratulations Atish he said happily and congratulated my parents too. Its all because of your courage and will power that you have overcame it, the doctor uttered gently.
Things became clear as a bell, I suddenly felt immersed in a bright light, But it certainly doesn’t hurt to have an outstanding medical expertees at your side to give you the best odds of positively beating the disease. I eternally believes that Hinduja hospital provides a happy and positive environment for treatment that is unmatched. Almighty has given me many blessings as I faced my own mortality. I had 3 major surgeries in a one year period, and Hinduja hospital and my strong faith got me through all of them. Everything is under control now, thanks to my medical team, my family and my friends who took very good care of me during the phase in which I was battling hard, I kicked cancer’s ass and I’m not sorry about it at all. Thank you Cancer for hitting me up, it’s all because of you I have gathered lot of courage to do something in my life and make my parents proud.
I am now living my life happily and promised to do anything out of box to provide smile on my parent’s face.
So to all the people battling hard with cancer, no need to worry about it all, drink lots of water and most importantly, gain some courage and you ll emerge as a winner.
