Since the day I turned 14 my life was turned upside down. I was molested by an adult that I thought I could trust. And, unfortunately, I started a bad habit of cutting myself soon after. I went through high school unable to trust any adults. I went through friends every year. My sophomore and junior years in high school I had only acquaintances and no true friend. My senior year I thought I had found my best friend for life. She understood me and picked me up when I was down. She was a couple of years younger than me and after I graduated and was living on the college campus, I lost her. I lost her because another woman wanted her daughter to have my best friend. I was heart broken. But, out of the blue, I was contacted by my middle school band teacher, who had left my last year in middle school and started teaching in a new school. She wanted me to come and help her at her band program. I gladly accepted. She was the teacher who had inspired me to become a music educator. And now, 2 years later, I am working with my best friend. I've learned that life may be full of big bad monsters but it's the small acts of kindness that can change a persons life forever.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
